1)  Write one of your dreams, resolutions, or goals for 2010 on my blog.  Share this website with your friends and challenge them to post, too.

2)  List three ways to make your dream happen.

3)  Begin today.

4)  Report back to "Open Mic" in January 2011, and tell us about your journey.

Okay, I'll jump first. I actually have seven specific goals, literary and beyond this year, but I'll just list one of them here.

1) Exercise (aerobics, weights, and yoga/pilates) for a minimum of 45 minutes every day. I've enlisted my husband as my personal trainer.

2)
A.. Walk down the creaky stairs to my basement each evening and work out during the local and nightly news.

B. If out of town, no excuses. Same time frame, same time limit.

C. One star is drawn on my calendar/planner when the exercise session is completed.

3. I began on Christmas Day. So far, so good!

4. When I report back next January, I will donate $100 to charity.

I resolve to finish my "big writing project" this year. I can't quite bring myself to call it anything other than that in public, but it doesn't need three words to describe it. Now for the three ways to make it happen. One is write and to log it on my writing calendar, so I have a record of progress. The second thing I can do to help myself out is to get my office organized. It really helps me if I don't have piles of paper all over the floor and every surface. My mind is more restful, and I can concenetrate better. In addition to the piles of paper to file, I vow to start dusting the grey film of cat litter than coats everything from my keyboard to the clothes in the closet in my home office. It's like I live next to a cement plant. The third thing I can do is to remember that I need to do things besides sides write and clean to add balance to my life. It's crucial to do fun things, too, so that I can take a break and go back to my writing renewed.

In addition, I also want to clicker train my cats, learn some rollerskating moves, teach myself to crochet Barbie clothes, and get my carpet taken up and my wood floors redone, but those are all another story. The main thing is not to get sidetracked and distracted by these other projects and to finish my writing. Please forgive any and all spelling errors and typos.

My main New Year's resolution is to translate (in the loose, Ezra Pound sense) poems by a Chinese woman who isn't known for her poetry--she's more of a revolutionary hero than a poet. Either that or drink more water.

I hate to put it in writing, but I've told myself, "Self, you've got to finish that book this year." That gives me two options since I have two in the works. I'll keep you posted. Somebody prod me with a stick so I'll stay focused.

Welcome
