For Joel

You dreamed

you could walk

so we talked

of walking

until you could

sleep.

Impossible as it is to capture Joel's strong spirit, you reflect it well.

Yesterday, I shook hands with a man in a wheelchair. I don't know what his disabilities were but he reminded me of another man who used to be in my congregation. John had trouble speaking. The first time I asked him to read a Scripture, he amazed the whole congregation. His was the voice of God. And always when he read, it was the same.

When I look at this incredible image of Joel and read your poem, I once again see and hear the voice of God.

Thank you
